Current Governors

Garry White (Chair)
Garry White spent twenty years as a primary headteacher before moving to the Centre for Education Leadership at the University of Manchester. Here he led the National Professional Qualification for Headship across the north of England and other leadership programmes for serving headteachers from the National College of School Leadership. He was a senior school improvement lead for Tameside. For three years he was Chair of Trustees of the Inspire Multi Academy Trust in Manchester and Chair of Governors at Hey Green Primary School in Liverpool. He has been inspecting schools since 2002 and was appointed as one of Her Majesty's Inspector of schools in 2019. He is now semi-retired but continues to inspect a range of schools as a part time Ofsted Inspector.

Rose Downing
Rose has been involved as a governor at Broughton Moor Primary school for the past year and has now joined the shadow governing board. Rose has a background in Outdoor education and Primary teaching completing a PGCE in Carlisle and working as a class teacher in several local schools prior to having children. She has 2 children and as they’ve grown, she has volunteered in their primary school in a variety of roles. Her involvement as a class helper, treasurer of the PTA and a school governor have kept her busy. During the 8 years on the governing board, she has held responsibilities for SEND, Safeguarding and Curriculum, been Vice Chair for 4 years and Chair of this board for the last 2 years. All this experience has given her a wealth of knowledge of schools and effective governance. Rose enjoys gardening and in recent years completed a diploma in horticulture. With her family they are ticking off the Wainwright fells at weekends and she likes to keep active, running, cycling and lake swimming in her spare time.

Bob Crozier
Bob has been a Governor at Cockermouth School for the past 20 years. During this time, he has served on all the various sub committees and is currently chair of the Finance and Staffing Committee. During his time as a Governor, Cockermouth School converted to a single Academy, and last year (2024) the school joined the Learning for Life Trust. Prior to his involvement at Cockermouth School Bob was a Governor at both Fairfield Infant and then Fairfield Junior schools – which at the time were local authority schools. Bob is a qualified Management Accountant (CIMA) and before he retired had spent just over 30 years working for local firm WCF Ltd (previously known as West Cumberland Farmers) – based in their Carlisle and Brampton offices. Bob is a member of Christ Church in Cockermouth. His interests include fell walking and reading. He is making very slow progress attempting to build a model railway.

Natalie Ruane
Natalie Ruane is a solicitor, specialising in employment law. Having been a Partner in private practice, in 2021, she left to set up her own business which provides HR and legal services to the education sector. Natalie works with over 100 Cumbrian schools and academy trusts, supporting their employment practices, and leads a consultation forum with trade unions. Her work includes employee relations and the delivery of training. Natalie has previously been a Trustee on the Board of a multi academy trust as well as a governor of a primary school.

Dale Bromley
Headteacher
Dale has worked at Broughton Moor Primary School for 12 years and has been the Acting Headteacher since September 2024. He has successfully led on many roles, in two different schools as a Class Teacher and Assistant Head. Dale has extensive knowledge of all aspects of this primary school and is the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Pupil Premium Lead, Curriculum Lead, Maths, Science, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Languages Lead. Currently, Dale teaches across all year groups within the school. In his role as a staff governor for 5 years, Dale has been able to attend governor meetings and gain experience and understanding of the important role that governors play in the strategic development of a school. Dale grew up just down the road in Flimby before attending Netherhall School and Lancaster University where he graduated with a degree in History and Politics. He now lives in Maryport with his wife, son and dog. Dale’s voluntary roles/hobbies: Scout Section Leader with 2nd Maryport Scouts; hill walking; playing guitar; and reading.
